Money to Learn Chinese


Blakemore Freeman Language Grants are awarded for one year of advanced language study in East or Southeast Asia. Students studying Chinese, Vietnamese, Tibetan, Japanese, Indonesian, Thai, Korean, Khmer, Burmese and/or Malaysian are eligible for funding. The Foundation also offers “Refresher Grants” to professors, language professions and others for advanced language study. $30,000 To Go To Graduate School


Colleges and universities can apply for Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need Program. This program provides fellowships, through academic departments and programs of institutions of higher education, to assist Graduate students (those who have completed their undergraduate degrees) with excellent records that demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue the highest degree available in a field designated as an area of national need. The areas of national need include biology, chemistry, computer and information sciences, engineering, geological and related sciences, mathematics, nursing, and physics. The services provided include a stipend in the amount of the fellow’s financial need not to exceed $30,000 in FY 2006. Also provided is an institutional payment to cover the cost of the fellow’s tuition and required fees. For FY 2006, the institutional payment was $12,224. Students CANNOT apply for this grant directly from the U.S. Department of Education. They can though, go to the website to see what institutions received funding through this program. Money to Study Flowers in a Foreign Country!


The Harold F. Wilkins Scholarship administered by the American Floral Endowment provides grants to students to study the floral industry in a foreign country, to pursue a floral industry internship abroad, to attend an International Floricultural Symposium, and/or other related intellectual pursuits. Funding allocations vary depending on the length of the program and anticipated expenses. Scholarships for French Studies


The Institut Francais de Washington provides fellowships and scholarships for topics related to French literature and culture or Franco-American literary, historical and cultural relations. Giving activities include $5,800 for grants to individuals. Funding provides students with disabilities a postsecondary education. The Demonstration Projects to Ensure Students With Disabilities Receive a Quality Higher Education support technical assistance and professional development activities for faculty and administrators in institutions of higher education to improve their ability to provide a quality postsecondary education for students with disabilities. Grantees in the program will develop innovative, effective, and efficient teaching methods and other strategies to enhance the skills and abilities of postsecondary faculty and administrators in working with disabled students. Grantees will also disseminate information from their grant activities to other institutions of higher education.
